Mother’s Day on a Budget

For many of us, our lives have been forever brightened and changed by our mothers, our grandmothers, our aunts, and all the amazing women in our lives. Mother’s Day gives us the opportunity to show these women how important they are to us. Even still, it can be difficult to think of meaningful gifts without breaking the bank. If you need a little help with deciding on the perfect gift for that special woman in your life, check out some of these ideas.

1. An Outdoor Adventure

Last summer, my mom, my sister, and I spent a day zip lining and whitewater rafting in Helen. It was so special to experience something new, and a bit frightening, with the women I am closest to. Depending on your budget, zip lining might be a big expensive, but there are tons of beautiful hikes in and around Georgia. Check out All Trails to find a walk in your area. You could also head to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for the day, and for more than half the cost and just as much fun, check out the Gainesville Botanical Gardens.

2. A Homemade Meal

Moms often spend their lives make us delicious food. For a change, why don’t you prepare your mom’s favorite meal? Mix up a lasagna, get a nice glass of wine, and enjoy some wonderful conversation.

3. Girl’s Night

You don’t need to put on a fancy cocktail dress and pay a cover charge for a nice night. Instead, consider renting or streaming a classic mom-and-daughter or mom-and-son movie. Maybe your mom enjoys a funnier classic like The Incredibles, or prefers a more action-packed filmed like The Terminator. Whatever her taste, check out this list for some great movies to watch on Mother’s Day. To make it even more special, curl up with some fluffy blankets and her favorite snacks.

4. Deliver Some Joy

For those of us who can’t be near our mothers on Mother’s Day, consider having fresh donuts delivered to her in the morning or a delicious cupcake dropped off just after dinner. How do you do that? Apps likes DoorDash or Grubhub allow you to order from restaurants, bakeries, and cafes anywhere in the country and have delicious food delivered to anyone’s doorstep for an affordable price.

5. Homemade Gifts

While hand print artwork might not be as cute coming from adult children, there are tons of other homemade items you could make for your mom. You could make her some delicious-smelling soaps or decorate a tote bag for her. Check out this list for some ideas and instructions. Pinterest has tons more ideas, and your local Michael’s will always have craft kits on display. You could buy a decorative board or a mug and paint an inside joke or cute polka dots onto it. Whatever it is, your mother will appreciate the daily reminder of your love.
